Adriano Azevedo (Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil) A professional drummer since 1990, he began his career playing with the best and most experienced musicians in Fortaleza, in a new project which was audacious for its time: play instrumental music live, in a city whose public who appreciated this music style was still incipient. He led his career playing mainly with Bossa Nova and Jazz groups. In 2001 he took part in a selection for the Musikhöchschule (Hochshule fürMusik Köln) University having an outstanding performance as one of the 5 best students. In his way back to Brazil he was invited to take part in some projects such as Brazilian Solos Project “Projeto Solos Brasileiros"(Governo do Estado do Ceará), Music Exhibition Petrúcio Maia “Mostra de Música Petrúcio Maia” (Prefeitura Municipal de Fortaleza), Petrobrás Project “Projeto Petrobrás” (opening Edson Cordeiro’s concert), Guanabara Project “Projeto Guanabara”, BEC Six Thirty Project “Projeto BEC Seis e Meia”, Jazz Downtown Project “Projeto Jazz no Centro” (Banco do Nordeste do Brasil), BALAIO BRASIL (Sesc São Paulo), among others. In 2004 Adriano Azevedo was invited to represent the instrumental music in the biggest Festival of Pop Music of the State, Ceará Music, drawing a public of more than 50 thousand people. Two years later he was invited to open Edson Cordeiro’s concert, which was presented in two days at the Cultural Center Dragão do Mar, “Centro Cultural Dragão do Mar”. Graduated in music at the State University of Ceará and doing his post graduation in Scientific Research in the same educational institution, he was a member of the teaching staff in the Alberto Nepomuceno Conservatory. He also received a scholarship from the Souza Lima & Berklee College in São Paulo. Besides that, he took the first place in the International Music Festival, in Natal (RN). He is the author of the scientific research rhythms from the Northwest. He presents workshops all over the country being sponsored by the brands SONOR Drums, ALBA Drum Sticks, AQUARIAN Drumheads and ISTANBUL Cymbals. A drummer for talent and conviction, the cearense Adriano Azevedo is pointed out by Pascoal Meirelles (Cama de Gato /RJ) as one of the best instrumentalists recently emerged (Tribuna da Imprensa/RJ-02/23/03). A participant in the Brazilian Instrumental Music Movement, the musician travels around the Northwest presenting courses and workshops including the most different perspectives of his instrument in the didactic-pedagogical class plans, giving special attention to the Northwestern rhythms. As one of the most proficient instrumentalists in Ceará, he stood out in the four editions of the Jazz and Blues Festival in Guaramiranga (2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004), which were the basis for his solo album released in 2005. He was invited to take part in the II BNB Instrumental Music Festival, promoted by Banco do Nordeste do Brasil Cultural Center. He was a prominent member of the IV Ibiapaba Music Festival in 2007, which was promoted by the State Government of Ceará in partnership with the The Secretary of State for Culture- SECULT, in order to promote the musicians’ improvement, stimulate the interchange with other musical institutions, also stimulating the learning and the musical practice. Adriano Azevedo, a remarkable professor in the Festival mentioned since 2007, presents the courses of drums in the basic level and rhythm reading through drums practice and experimentation besides taking part in the Project named “Casulo”, which promotes the practice of instrumental group, giving opportunity to the beginner drummers and instrumentalists of other fields. Founder of the first school specialized in rhythm in Ceará, Adriano Azevedo promotes its name for it is a school which focuses in the instrument specific learning. He followed important names of the Brazilian music, such as Leni Andrade, Pery Ribeiro,João Donato, Boca Livre, Ednardo, Belchior, Manassés, Amelinha, Katia Freitas, David duarte. Currently he plays with the bands Groovytown (a samba-rock band) and Adriano Azevedo e Quinteto (a latin jazz band ), both remarkable in Ceará’s music scene, and each one with a different music style, showing all their versatility. Other one of his big projects is outstanding for its audacious proposal: a drums concert completely apart from the conventional patterns. This concert includes 50 drummers, among professionals and beginners, who will present on a square in a great miscellaneousness of rhythm and sonority. The aim of this project is to make it become part of the city cultural calendar and take the population to an innovative musical experience.
